The Mobile World Congress 2018 is already in the books and among the many products that were presented, The Samsung S9, Nokia 7 Plus, the return of the Nokia 8110, Asus Zenfone 5Z, and Sony Xperia XZ2 were the ones that got the most attention during the event.
Of this bunch, the S9 (and S9 Plus) arrived after a lot of fanfare and rumors, and so far, they have received a set of mix reactions. Most reviews talk about a fantastic device with top of the line hardware (a worthy successor to the S8), but some of the first tests showed that the device’s performance is, at least, underwhelming.
HMD Global continue to make the most out of their acquisition of the Nokia brand, releasing three very promising devices: Nokia 7, Nokia 8 Sirocco and the return of the 8110.
The first two devices are offering a robust set of specs without falling into the high end, flagship segment, while the third takes more a trip down nostalgia line, bringing back to life a phone that made famous by the popular Sci-Fi Movie, The Matrix. Each innovating product continues to reposition the Nokia brand into the phone maker arena.
Although it didn’t get a lot of awareness before its launch, the Zenfone 5Z looks ready to bring the heat into the competition as one the first devices to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset.
On size and aesthetics alone, this smartphone looks like the lost brother of the iPhone X. Specs wise, while it may fall short on performance, but it will not be by long. Undoubtedly, it will remain of the competition as one of the best all-around Android devices for its price.
The Japanese phone maker is looking to regain traction on the mobile devices race after a couple of years underperforming, and they are betting on the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact to do it.
Both phones try to adapt and shine under contemporary aesthetics’ trends, but they are only going so far, while they remain true to their most known features and traits.
All of these phones will start hitting stores around the world during the course of the year, and it will give the public the proper time to say the final word.
