Samsung launched their first notch-less device: the A8s

Korean mobile titan, Samsung, released earlier this month in China the A8s, the company’s first smartphone that does not use the dreaded screen notch on the top of the screen.

To overcome this design challenge, Samsung introduced an innovative feature called the Infinity-O Display, a screen with a small hole for the camera on the upper side of the phone that allows it to utilize the whole surface without any manor interference or obstacles like the notch.

While the announcement has been made only to the Chinese market so far, the A8 is expected to hit several other markets worldwide.

A combination of refined aesthetics and powerful specs

The latest member of the Samsung’s A lineup shows serious processing power with the combo of the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC chip, and the Adreno 616 GPU, while having two RAM options: 6 and 8 GB. Storage-wise, it has 128GB of internal storage

Like many other devices on the Asian market and a growing trend around the globe, the phone carries a dual-SIM setup.  

It features a 6.2-inch full-HD+ display along with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, with the aforementioned Infinity-O display.

On the software side, it runs Android 8.1 Oreo.

The handset has a new hole-in-the-screen design that comes through the Infinity-O Display and makes room for the selfie camera. Also, the Galaxy A8s sports is a triple rear camera setup

The Galaxy A8s, on the imaging part, brings a current configuration of a triple rear camera setup (A 24-megapixel primary sensor, a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor and 2x optical zoom support, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. Additionally, there is a 24-mpx selfie shooter on the front.

On the Connectivity side, the handset has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C.

In China, the device – that comes in three color variants: Black (Green), Blue, and Silver - will go for CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 30,500) for the 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant, currently in pre-order phase, and it will start shipping on December 31.

While the international availability of the A8s has not been announced yet, It should be coming soon for a device that may be the first gleam that the world has of what Samsung may have in store for their upcoming flagship for 2019: the Galaxy S10.
