Samsung introduced their newest flagships at MWC 2018

Korean phone maker Samsung made the best out of their presence in Barcelona, Spain for the MWC2018 by launching the long-awaited, latest flagship devices: the S9 and S9 Plus.

Both phones will go on sale in March 16th worldwide (India on the 6th) with a starting price around $720 and $840 respectively.

Several reports agreed that the new flagships from Samsung continue on a very similar path to their predecessors, enhancing aesthetics and features slightly, but without making any groundbreaking transformation.

Design-wise, the main changes found on these phones are that they boast thinner bodies and better ergonomic distribution than the S8 and S8 Plus.

Specifications

S9

Featuring a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2960 x 1440 px resolution, which offers an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

As for the chipset, not everybody will get the same. The US and South Korean market will get the S9 powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, while the rest of the world will get it with the new Exynos 9810 chipset.

The rest of the features remain the same all across the board. 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, expandable up to 256GB via a MicroSD card. The same battery specs of the S8 will power the S9. A 3000 mAh battery, with compatibility with QuickCharge 4.0 and wireless charging.

As for OS, Android 8 Oreo will come out of the box with Experience 9.0 on top.

Also, the Galaxy S9 has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, and a dual stereo speaker system tuned by AKG and Dolby surround sound.

On the imaging department, Single Dual Pixel 12 MP sensor with dual /1.5 and f/2.4 apertures, and video recording at 720P at 960fps and 4K at 60fps. On the front, an 8MP shooter with a f/1.6 aperture, also capable of shooting 4K.

S9 Plus

The bigger newcomer sports a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2960 x 1440 px resolution, powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset or Exynos 9810 depending on where the device is bought (Just like the S9). The S9+ will be available in three variants: 6GB RAM/64GB storage, 6GB RAM/128GB, and 6GB RAM/256GB models in major markets.

It will also run Android 8 Oreo out of the box with Experience 9.0 on top.

The camera department is where the most significant change between the pair appears. The Galaxy S9+ has a dual-camera on the back (One wide-angle 12MP camera with f/1.5 aperture and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. On the front of the phone, you will find an 8MP camera with a f/1.6 aperture, capable of recording 4K videos.
