After reaching a total of 40 million units sold for the third quarter of 2017, India ascended to the second spot among the most significant mobile phone markets in the world, trailing only to China, according to the most recent report by Canalys.
The 23% growth seen from the Asian nation in the same period of last year allows it to surpass EEUU, reestablishing the growing trend that has sustained the Indian Market in recent years.
Also, the top five vendors including Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Lenovo, pile up for 75 percent of all shipments in India.
Another critical fact found in Canalys’ report is that currently there are almost 100 brands been sold in India, growing consistently every quarter.
It’s also worth noticing that the segment for affordable devices is expanding fast and opens opportunities for brands like Xiaomi to overtake major players like Samsung, that are leading in other categories with costlier, more advanced phones.
In recent years, the Indian market has shown an identity that’s defined by its challenges and complexities, while also being driven with the help of the current explosion of LTE networks and low smartphone penetration.
After all, mobile technology continues to increase its presence all around the world, especially in the Asian continent and this growing trend is one so consistent and strong that it cannot be stopped by the traditional powerhouse like the EEUU.
